Juicing vs. Blending – Nama

Guide to Juicing

Juicing vs. Blending

Either way, both juicing and blending help to dramatically increase your vegetable and fruit intake and both are delicious, nourishing, and can be part of your healthy whole food diet.

We love both Juicing and Blending! Any way you can increase your daily intake of veggies and fruit is fantastic for your health. You could choose a super green juice filled with spinach, romaine, cucumber, parsley and apple or a smoothie with blueberries, kale, almond butter and banana. Either way, both juicing and blending help to dramatically increase your vegetable and fruit intake and both are delicious, nourishing, and can be part of your healthy whole food diet.

When you juice vegetables and fruits with a masticating juicer like the one from Nama, you are extracting much of the nutrients and water. These nutrients are extracted from a large amount of the indigestible plant fiber and are then more easily assimilated into the body. The energy required to digest all the fiber is saved and the body can absorb the nutrients quickly from the juice. This saved energy is crucial while the body is detoxifying, cleansing, recovering from exercise and from illness. Juicing is a wonderful way to ensure that you are consuming enough fruits and vegetables daily. It is also important for supporting hydration which can be missing in standard diets. At Nama we believe it is important to combine juicing with a whole food, high fiber diet.

With blending, your drink is full of fiber as it does not separate out the fiber containing pulp. You are consuming the entire piece of vegetable or fruit that you have put into the blender. The blender does help break down the fiber but it is all there for your digestive system to process. Fiber is crucial for your digestive health and should be integrated into your daily meal routine. However, sometimes if you are transitioning into a whole foods diet, the extra fiber can take time for your digestive system to get used to processing. In this case, start with juicing and then slowly work into blending. Blended “smoothies” are a great way of consuming fruits and vegetables but without all the chewing and the fiber helps your stomach feel full.

Either way, both juicing and blending help to dramatically increase your vegetable and fruit intake and both are delicious, nourishing, and can be part of your healthy whole food diet.
