The classic “Orange Julius” drink originated in Los Angeles in the 1920s. Here’s a version that brings together frozen banana, fresh orange juice, your choice of milk or yogurt, and a little vanilla for a sweet, refreshing flavor.


  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (4 medium oranges)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • ¼ cup plant-based milk (or yogurt)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract


  • Peel oranges and juice.⁣
  • Add juice to a blender with banana, milk, and vanilla.⁣
  • Blend until smooth, about 45-60 seconds, and enjoy!⁣

Recipe Tips:

Use Greek yogurt to add about 7 grams of protein to this smoothie (equivalent to one egg) or to keep it vegan and creamy with coconut milk or yogurt.
